Programs for Young Musicians

Community Music Lessons

The TSO has been providing free music lessons for 16 years, supporting underserved individual young musicians, students in select schools, and residents at the Lucas County Youth Treatment Facility. This program, although in existence for more than a decade, is the TSO’s most under-recognized, yet potentially most valuable community resource.

Music In Our School

A relatively new program initiated by TSO CEO Bob Bell, Music In Our Schools is meant to support music programs in schools, focusing on in-depth, sustained work with student and teachers. This program reflects the deep and sustained mentorship opportunities that the TSO longs to have with students and teachers. The TSO staff’s enthusiasm and sense of connection and commitment to this program is palpable, as the underlying principles of Music In Our Schools closely align with the core values of the organization.

Side by Side Concerts

Side by Side concerts allow for connection with the students in order to develop authentic mentorship opportunities and to increase impact on individual young musicians and on the ensemble as a whole.

Scholarships

The TSO and the Toledo Symphony League offer scholarships to talented young musicians and TSO musicians, for more information, please contact the Education Department.

Young Artist’s Competition

Competitions for young musicians is a way for the Toledo Symphony to support talented young musicians the community. The Young Artist’s competition winners’ most valuable prize is the opportunity to perform with the TSO at a youth or community concert.
