| Still only $4 per student! These educational and entertaining programs are sell-outs year after year, and we encourage you to speak with your principals and administrators NOW. MUSIC AND NATUREThursday November 6, 2008 – 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. This concert will feature music relating to the natural world - we'll explore how weather, flora and fauna, and geography influence the human world. Written responses from students detailing how a favorite piece of music, art, or literay work responds to nature is an effective way of integrating English language Arts benchmarks into this wonderful introduction to the sound world of the orchestra! MUSICAL HYBRIDSThursday February 12, 2009 – 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. Like the increasingly popular Hybrid cars that combine the best elements of gas and electric power to create an environmentally friendly driving experience, music has been combining seemingly unrelated elements for centuries! Vocal music added to orchestra; outdoor instruments added to indoor instruments; Broadway show tunes taken to Hollywood; jazz musicians added to orchestral; even classical musicians who 'moonlight' in rock bands! As the Northwest Ohio region takes on an active role in exploring alternative fuels, this concert is an excellent opportunity to explore how local and regional governments can shape the economic lives of their citizens, directly addressing People in Societies Standards for sixth to eighth graders! Join us as we take an exciting and educational Hybrid Journey! MuSICAL RECYCLINGThursday May 28, 2009 – 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. For hundreds of years, gifted composers have used the same twelve notes to create an infinite variey of musical compositions. Gregorian Chant themes have been used by classical composers for hundreds of years; jazz combos take songs written for Broadway and turn them into standards; orchestral composers gain inspiration from rock and roll; folk songs become the basis for orchestral film compositions. We will be tying-in musical 'recycling' to the scientific cycles that dominate sixth through eighth grade Earth Science benchmarks, such as the water cycle and the rock cycle. Seeing how much music 'metamorphs' thematic fragments into completely different sounding pieces, is an extraordinary illustration of the metamorphic rock process for sixth grade science students!
