Hough to present solo piano recital May 2 in Peristyle

NEWS OF MUSIC AND DANCE

Pianist Steven Hough will make a rare Toledo appearance in a solo recital at 8 p.m. May 2 in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle. A native of England, Hough made his professional debut at London's Wigmore Hall in 1982. Since then, he has performed in solo recital and with orchestras on major stages around the world.

He won the Naumberg Prize for performance in 1983 and has distinguished himself as a performer, composer, writer, theologian, and poet. He was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2001 and won the Jean Gimbel Lane Prize in Piano Performance from Northwestern University.

For his Toledo performance, presented by the Toledo Symphony Peristyle Visiting Artist Series, Hough will perform works by Beethoven, Chabrier, Webern, Liszt, and Chopin. Tickets are $22 to $45 and are available at 419-246-8000 or www.toledosymphony.com.

WGTE will debut the latest homemade production in its series, Toledo Stories, at 8 tonight on Channel 30. Ann Stranahan penned the script for the 30-minute production. A grant from the Ohio Arts Council plus local support helped cover costs. The show also will be aired at 10 a.m. Sunday.
