"Coronation" Concerto Plus Haydn 103
Learn more about this venue
Description:
Principal Conductor Stefan Sanderling leads the Toledo Symphony in two lesser-known works by the Classical masters, Haydn and Mozart.
Mozart's Coronation Concerto, his twenty-sixth, is one of his most elegant, and was one of the most performed concerti by nineteenth-century pianists. However, its uncomplicated relationship between piano and orchestra led to its decline from favor during the middle part of the twentieth century. This performance, a perfect spotlight for young American pianist Andrew Armstrong, will be the first in the TSO's sixty-five year history!
Haydn's Symphony No. 103 is full of the symphonic innovations that earned Haydn the soubriquet "Father of the Symphony." Especially captivating are the initial drumroll and slow, almost forbidding introduction, the extensive solo for the concertmaster, and the marvelously integrated Croatian folk-songs in the slow movement and finale.
