Competitions for young musicians provide avenues for the Toledo Symphony Orchestra and the Toledo Symphony League to support talented young musicians in the community.  The Toledo Symphony League provides as many as three monetary awards each year in the professionally judged Young Artist Competition, and coordinates with the TSO to provide winners with the valuable opportunity to perform with the TSO at a youth or community concert.

The 2016 Young Artist Competition will be held at the Symphony Space May 28.  You may download a brochure and application on this site.  Deadline for submitting an application is May, 16, 2016.

For more information about the 2016 Required Repertoire, please download a copy.  You may also contact Merwin Siu, Artistic Administrator for the TSO, for questions about repertoire at 419-418-0023.

Email Claudia Trombla, Young Artist Competition Chairperson, with any questions at For further information, you may also access the Toledo Symphony League website.

As part of the core edcational mission of the Toledo Symphony, the Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestras bring together 200 of the most talented students from Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan in an atmosphere of musical excellence.

The TSO has been providing free music lessons for 18 years, supporting underserved individual young musicians, students in select schools, and residents at the Lucas County Youth Treatment Facility. This program, although in existence for more than a decade, is the TSO’s most under-recognized, yet potentially most valuable community resource.

Side by Side concerts allow for connection with the students in order to develop authentic mentorship opportunities and to increase impact on individual young musicians and on the ensemble as a whole.

The Symphony School is a place where families come to learn and experience the power of music through private lessons, group classes, enrichment activities, and performances. Students as young as three work with Symphony musicians to develop their musical talents.
