On Monday, April 30, 2018 at 7 p.m. at the Maumee High School Performing Arts Center, the Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestras (TSYO) will conclude their 2017-2018 performance season with their annual Pops Concert.
The performance on Monday evening will feature the TSYO’s Symphonic and Concert Strings Orchestras, conducted by Patrick Barrett, and the Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Wasim Hawary.
Members of the TSYO will join the Toledo Symphony Youth Quartet in the Performing Arts Center lobby to kick-off the evening with pre-concert music. Then, the TSYO Concert Strings will open the program with music from La La Land, How Far I’ll Go from Moana, music from Game of Thrones, and more. The Symphonic Orchestra will perform the classic hits from Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and The Doors on Tour. To close the program, the Philharmonic Orchestra will perform familiar favorites such as selections from Indiana Jones, Hoedown from Rodeo, and Stars and Stripes Forever.
“The TSYO season-ending Pops Concert is always an exciting event for everyone!” said Dorothy Coats, TSYO Manager. “We will also recognize the fifty-two winners of the Toledo Symphony League Remembrance Fund Scholarship. These students auditioned for scholarships in March to assist in their ongoing musical endeavors. The scholarship prize money totals nearly $15,000. We are extremely proud of all of our students!”
The TSYO Pops Concert will take place Monday, April 30, 2018 at 7 p.m. at the Maumee High School Performing Arts Center. Adult tickets are $10 and will be collected as donations at the door. Students and children are free.
The TSYO announced auditions for the 2018-2019 season. Auditions will be held May 14, 16, 17, and 18 at the Professional Building on 1838 Parkwood Ave. For more information, please contact Joan Weiler, Youth Orchestras Coordinator at email@example.com or visit https://sites.google.com/site/thetsyo/auditions.
As part of the core educational mission of the Toledo Symphony, the Toledo Symphony Youth Orchestras bring together over 200 of the most talented students from Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan in an atmosphere of musical excellence. Dedicated staff members and musicians work hard to give a top quality musical education to all students regardless of financial circumstance. The Toledo Youth Orchestras have been in existence for over 65 years, starting out as a small group of friends meeting for fun, the organization grew into what we know today.
The TSYO currently includes three orchestras: the Philharmonic, Symphonic, and Concert Strings that perform 4 concerts per season. The TSYO is able to serve students ages 8-18 from over 50 area schools. We aim to find a place in the orchestra where each student will be challenged to grow musically with skill-appropriate repertoire.
